South Africa - Hardly any wind

17.02.2009 - Travel

As already proven the day before by the local meteorologists: hardly any wind today. For Corinne's surf lesson 'jibing and tacking' it will be enough, but for kiting it's 'no way'. Crap. Once more. Crap. I still get up together with Corinne and want to have at least a good breakfast at 'Friday Island'. It's great to sip the first coffee at the sea. Even though the power is out and coffee is the only warm thing the kitchen crew can get together. No toast, no eggs, no ham. No matter.

I decide for lack of better sporting opportunities to rent a kayak to at least Corinne still a few tricks for 'keep afloat' abzugucken. After five minutes of paddling, I am bored to death. Sports without wind are somehow even more boring than waiting for wind... But Corinne does her thing well and so I am constantly paddling behind, despite practically zero wind. However, every slight breeze is didactically converted into forward movement under Kutte's guidance and so at least Corinne gets her sporting money's worth today.

Dismayed, we look ashore again at the wind forecasts of the sports center, which do not promise any improvement for Wednesday. On the contrary. Wednesday total calm. We take it in our stride and extend our stay by two days. Return trip new: Friday morning. No problem, the room at Puza Moya is still free. Internet is free. Let's watch Lost. Another evening at Pearly's, but today with a sensational sunset. Afterwards, I also participate in the social festivities in the courtyard - knowing that I can sleep in tomorrow. The European delegation turns out to be a group of entertaining contemporaries and the evening ends relaxed with beer, chips and laughter.
